ARTICLES OF INCORPORATION
OF
COOL SPRINGS VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, INC.
We, the undersigned, natural persons of the age of 21 years or more, do hereby associate ourselves into a non-profit corporation under the laws of the State of North Carolina, as contained in Chapter 55A of the General Statutes of North Carolina, entitled “Non-Profit Corporation Act”, and the several amendments thereto, and to that end do hereby set forth:
1. The name of the corporation is Cool Springs Volunteer Fire
Department, Inc.
2. The period of duration if the corporation shall be perpetual.
3. The purpose or purposes for which the corporation is organized are:
(a) To protect from injury or destruction by fire or other casualties, real and personal property located in the communities of and surrounding areas of Elmwood, Ebenezer, Wayside, Fairview, Cool Springs, Providence, New Salem, County Line, East-Side, Oakdale, and Oak Forest.
(b) To organize, conduct and carry on various plans, efforts and undertakings for the general and physical well- being and improvements of its members and of the community in which they live.
(c) To acquire and maintain a place of meeting for its membership and a place to house all fire fighting equipment that may be acquired.
(d) To lease, rent, purchase, own, operate, encumber, and sell real or personal property for its own use or for the purpose of obtaining income from any accumulated funds.
(e) To do and perform such matters and things as are allowed by law and may be reasonably convenient or necessary to obtain the objects and ends for which it was organized as hereinabove set forth.
4. The corporation is to have no capital stock, and membership in its affairs shall be by participation in a manner as set out in the by-laws, and in any event no individual shall have a proprietary interest therein.
5. The corporation shall have not less than three (3) nor more than fifteen (15) directors and the by-laws of the corporation shall determine the number of directors and the method of election of directors.
6. The address of the initial registered office of the corporation is 210 1/2 South Center Street, Statesville, Iredell County, North Carolina, in the name of the initial registered agent at such address is Johnie Ray Hendren, Statesville, North Carolina.
7. The number of directors constituting the initial board of directors shall be three (3) and the names and addresses of the persons who are to serve as directors until the first meeting of the membership or until their successors are elected and qualified are:

THIS IS TO CERTIFY, that on the 27th day of April, 1960, before me, a Notary Public, personally appeared Reuben H. Starrette, Luther S. Forbes, and William C. Robertson, who I am satisfied are the persons named in and who executed the foregoing Articles of Incorporation, and I having first made known to them the contents thereof, they did each acknowledge that they signed and delivered the same as their voluntary act and deed for the uses and purposes therein expressed.
