Our department was awarded two federal grants from FEMA. The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) and the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) were applied for and awarded. We applied in 2020 and were notified in August of the awards. Congressman Patrick McHenry paid a visit to Firehouse 1 to meet with our firefighters, Board members and community members, and presented two checks totaling $457,992.38. The AFG grant is a 10% matching grant of $177,672.38. It will be used to replace the SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus) that our firefighters use when fighting fires. The SAFER Grant is a non matching one for $280,320. It is a four year grant to recruit and retain volunteers. It will cover the cost of 20 new recruits with turnout gear, health physical screenings and uniforms. Plus it will allow us to offer a monetary reimbursement to our members on a per call answered basis. And it provides funds so that we can give a monetary award to those members who win our year in department awards. We are always looking to add to our team. If you are interested visit the firehouse any day and get an application.
