Utility poles in our district have had a tough week. For the third time this week a MVA involving a utility pole and a vehicle occurred in our district. A SUV left the roadway after apparently, according to the driver, swerved to miss a deer in the roadway. The SUV traveled 157 feet before striking a mailbox then proceeded another 100 feet before striking and breaking a utility pole into. The SUV continued across Pecan Tree Lane striking several mailboxes before crossing Mocksville Highway and striking a large shrub and knocking it down. NCSHP determined that excessive speed was a factor. Driver had minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by EMS. Our personnel closed the road until phone lines hanging low across Mocksville Highway could be removed. We also cleared the roadway of mailboxes, mail and other debris before opening the roadway again. EnergyUnited representative arrived and asked if we could have these accidents during the daytime. This was our third, and his, MVA involving a utility pole this week and they all occurred between midnight and 5 am.
