Companies responded to a residential structure fire at 329 Oak Forest Drive. The alarm came in at 3:06 a.m. Fire Chief Webster was first to arrive on the scene confirming a fire in the basement of the residence. Engine 1 and Statesville Engine 3 arrived and a 1.75” hand line was placed in operation to control the fire. A water line had been melted by the heat of the fire and helped keep the fire in check until we arrived. Overhaul and smoke removal limited damage as much as possible. Cause was determined to be an electrical short in a heat lamp. Family of four were able to get out of the residence safely and pets were rescued by firefighters on scene. The house sat off the main road and had no mailbox or any address visible so there was a delay in finding the home. If you need a reflective address sign please contact the department.
